My wife and I used to live in Lockerbie many years ago where I managed Eskdalemuir Observatory for the Met Office and as their skies were nice and dark I bought a 12.5" Dobsonian and enjoyed looking at the planets and lots of galaxies. Much later we eventually moved to Devon with the Met Office and when Covid came along, as I was retired, I decided to get into astrophotography, having been a landscape photographer for many years, although interest had tailed off since retiring for various reasons. After 3 years of slowly and at many times, painfully, climbing up the learning curve, I now have the following system which I am pleased with:- Skywatcher AZ-EQ6 Pro mount on a pillar, Skywatcher 130PDS and 200PDS Newtonians scopes, 5" and 8". ZWO ASI2600MM and 2600MC mono and colour cameras. I guide with a ZWO ASI290MM guide camera and Altair MG60 guide scope. Everything is controlled with a ZWO ASIAIR Plus. This has saved me lots and lots of time and wasted effort.
I use an Optolong L-Enhance 2" filter for some nebulae and Baader H-Alpha 7nM, Baader OIII 8.5nM and Baader S-II 6.5nM narrowband filters for narrowband imaging and enhancing images. I have the scope and mount permanently mounted on the patio with a cover in place with silica gel inside and a sensor that monitors temp and RH, which it transmits to a receiver inside the cottage. I refresh the gel when the RH > approx 80%. For software I use Pixinsight, Photoshop and Lightroom. My images can be found on the Astrobin website under David Moore or Moorefam. I have not visited the Observatory yet but hope to soon. I also intent to upload some images, very soon.
Looking forward to visiting and meeting some of you.
